Work Location: Blue Bell, PA

Technical Writer

Job Type: Full time – Exempt (40 hours/week) 


Reports To: Systems Engineer


Summary: Drive Engineering is currently seeking a highly motivated Technical Writer with 0-5 years of experience to work on various transportation and tolling industry projects. Relevant experience may include writing reports related to Intelligent Transportation Systems, network engineering, data analytics, systems engineering studies/report development, gaps analysis, transition planning, and concept of operations development for transportation or transit agencies. Typical projects include development of documents related to ITS and connected/autonomous vehicle programs, tolling technology, integrated corridor management systems, and other electrical and communications systems (mainly fiber optic and wireless). Any experience with grant writing on a local, state, or federal level is also a plus.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Primary job responsibilities will include supporting the development of standard operating procedures, concepts of operations, and other technical studies, reports, and documentation. Primary job responsibilities require candidates to:

  • Implement the systems engineering process
  • Extract problems and needs from stakeholder meetings
  • Develop meeting minutes
  • Develop comprehensive requirements and solutions
  • Present recommendations to stakeholders
  • Coordinate and work with interdisciplinary teams
  • Develop associated Systems Engineering diagrams, documents, reports, designs, and presentations

  

Education and Requirements

  • BS or MS Degree in Engineering or a related technical or planning field
  • Self-motivated with ability to prioritize tasks and complete work on time with minimal supervision
  • Excellent time management and technical communication/writing skills
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and relational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Perseverant with ability to overcome challenges


Preferred Qualifications

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

Work Environment: This job generally operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 


Physical Demands: This is largely a sedentary role; however, the physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.


The employee is occasionally required to; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 


Travel: Limited travel is expected for this position.
