Job Summary
Drive Engineering is currently seeking a self-motivated, professional, and detail-oriented Controller to lead the Accounting Department and oversee the Project Accountant Manager and Project Accountant(s) and report directly to the owners. The Controller will be responsible for the financial operations of a growing 60 plus person engineering firm and 5-person specialized construction company.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Monitors FAR overhead real time.
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll activities.
- Supervises cash procedures and monitor cash balances.
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
- Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
- Perform month-end closing, which include maintaining general ledger systems through proper management of expense, inventory, payroll, and closing entries. Compare general ledger system results to project based results.
- Organize regularly scheduled financial presentations to the Principals and Shareholders
- Track performance of individual Departments against annual goals and objectives. Tabulate performance against metrics on a quarterly basis.
- Prepares corporate budgets. Analysis of budgets vs actuals and forecast vs actuals monthly.
- Manage tax planning & forecasting process.
- Managing year-end financial audit process, including interaction/correspondence with external auditors.
- Coordinates with external accountants.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Competencies

Education and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration is required.
- Minimum ten years or more of related experience required.
- Proven experience with Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint accounting and or similar project management software
- CPA or CA preferred
- Prior experience with a project and client-based firm, engineering, or construction, is strongly desired
- Tax planning and IT Experience is a plus
